A & J Johnson Constructions Pty Ltd is a proud local and family owned and operated construction business based on Phillip Island and working around the Southern Gippsland Coast. We have had over 20 years building and renovating various styles of homes.

All projects are managed by Ashley Johnson who is a fully Registered Master Builder DBU-24166 who has many years experience in renovations, restorations, Architectural and Custom Build Homes.

Renovations - Big & Small

Fancy a new Bathroom, Kitchen, Laundry, Workshop or Home Office? Did you know we also do renovations big and small.  Our experience is that many clients see the quick makeover on TV but in reality it can be a handful and cause many stressful nights.  Many people are not always aware that they may need a qualified Plumber or Electrician to carry out the work that they had in mind.  We take all the fuss out of renovating.  Our company are experienced and qualified and whats more we can sit down with you and help to design a new space and make sure it fits your budget.  We also offer in house Interior Design and help with choosing carpet, tiles, paint and lighting, placing furniture and art to make the space a delight to live in.

We advise people to read up on consumer law when it comes to renovation.  There are many unscrupulous operators posing as Interior Designers or Handymen who may leave you with a less than desirable outcome. If any job is over $5000 you must have not only a contract but make sure whoever does the work has Warranty Insurance and is Registered to carry out such work.

Building in a Bushfire Flame Zone........we have!

Attached is a project we have just completed in a Bushfire Flame Zone.  The Beachside Bungalow construction is made from concrete filled block work with a concrete slab roof.  The roof has been waterproofed and has a garden/green roof supplied and installed by Fytogreen.  All the windows and doors have Steel shutters, the rollershutters close at the touch of a button.  The opening doors had to have custom made shutters and all openings eg. Fireplace flue, cooking range-top penetrations all had to have steel guards fitted in case of ember attack.  It was a challenge to source much of the materials. Thus we custom made many of the solutions.  The project designed by Barbara Moje and Simon OBrien of Six Degrees Architects is clever in its compact but practical design.

We completed a project for Peter Crone and Award winning Melbourne Architect recently. The feature article appeared in the Age Domain Centre Feature 9/4/11. It was a fabulous use of a very narrow site but featured fantastic use of windows which carefully framed magnificent views over Ventnor.

Registered Master Builders

The Building Commission advises that the first step in a successful project outcome is to double check that you are using a Fully Registered Builder. If you are at any stage unsure of what is involved in signing a contract then visit here. Many building companies use Salesmen to get you to build a prepackaged home from a small selection. It does not always guarantee satisfaction or a cap on your construction costs. Many people find that if they try to alter the size of a wardrobe or change the finish on a benchtop in the kitchen they either can't or are hit with extra costs they did not expect.
